Fishing is a local industry in Phillip Island, with the fleet based in the seaside village of San Remo. And with fishing a big part of everyday life on the island, there are plenty of options for keen anglers and casual fisherfolk to get in on the action. So cast a line in the tranquil surrounds and catch your share of super fresh seafood for the campfire or the family BBQ.
Sittin' on the dock of the bay
Bring your gear and enjoy a few hours of quiet time near the water. Rod and line-fishing enthusiasts can set up shop along the jetties at Cowes, Newhaven, Rhyll and San Remo, all great places to snag flathead, snapper, whiting, salmon, shark and squid.
Out on the water
Cast your net further afield and embark on a fishing adventure out on Westernport Bay where there are a large variety of fish, including flathead, snapper, channel whiting, King George whiting, Australian salmon, flounder, school and gummy shark, garfish, trevally and pike. And for an almost guaranteed catch, join one of the charter fishing expeditions that leave from San Remo and Rhyll.
Prefer to go it alone? Launch your own boat from all-tide and all-weather boat launching facilities at Cowes, Rhyll, Corinella and Newhaven, or hire a vessel from Rhyll and Cowes.
Closer to home
If you happen to return empty-handed, there's always the option of buying seafood straight off the boat at the San Remo Fisherman's Cooperative.

For information on weather, licences, local hotspots, as well as where to find supplies, drop into local newsagents, service stations and fishing outlets.
