Belmont Sunday Market
Every Sunday, the giant carpark on Barwon Heads Road fills up with stalls, food trucks and people selling stuff out of their car boot. This is the Belmont Sunday Market, Geelong’s unofficial trash-and-treasure market, and it’s always a good way to start your morning. The odds of picking up a genuine bargain are much higher here than the official vintage warehouses, although you might have to trawl through a lot of pre-loved ‘90s DVDs to find one. A gold coin gets you in, and there are plenty of food trucks on-site, if you’re feeling peckish.
The Amazing Mill Markets
Amazing is the right word. The Mill Markets on the Bellarine Highway in Newcombe, just east of Geelong, is straight-up incredible. Row upon row of vintage clothing, books, paintings, furniture, jewellery, antiques, memorabilia, fine china, old coins and collectibles. Whenever there’s an estate sale anywhere on the Bellarine peninsula, you can bet the best stuff is ending up here. There’s a café on-site, and we encourage you to dedicate at least an hour or two: you’ll need it to get through everything. This place is massive.
Portarlington Sunday Market
There are plenty of fantastic weekend markets on the Bellarine Peninsula, and we could have easily called out Barwon Heads Market or the Queenscliff Community Market, but Portarlington might be the pick of the bunch. Situated up on the hill at WG Little Reserve, just near the main strip and looking out over Port Phillip Bay, it’s a great spot for a weekend rummage. The stalls are a mix of vintage, food and artisan craft, so there’s a little something for everyone, and it's held on the fourth Sunday of each month. Afterwards, you can wander down to the waterfront, or grab a pie at The Portarlington Bakehouse. They make some of the best pastries in the region.
